The work of Palermo sculptor Nino Geraci, it was erected in 1926 in the modern Piazza Roma in honour of the Milazzesi who fell for their country. On a high base of classical line in Comiso stone stands the bronze statue of the Milite della Gloria, naked and with drawn dagger, symbol of the armed Italian soldier, flanked by two rostral Ionic columns surmounted by winged victories. On the sides two flaming areas symbolise love of country, while on the front are palm trees and laurels with the dedication inscribed. The bronze crown with oak tree and dedication plaque was donated by the Milazzo Independent Workers' Society of New York.
