Monument to the fallen

Work of the sculptor from Palermo Nino Geraci, was erected in 1926 in the modern Piazza Roma in honor of the Milazzesi fallen for the homeland. On a high base of classical stone line of Comiso stands the bronze statue of the naked and unsheathed dagger Milite della Gloria, symbol of the armed Italian soldier, flanked by two Ionic columns rostrate and surmounted by winged victories. On the sides two flaming areas symbolize love for the homeland, while frontally we find palm trees and laurels with inscribed dedication. The bronze crown with oak and dedicatory plaque was donated by the Milazzo Independent Workers’ Society of New York.
